Just wanted to update those of you that have been in touch about flooding in Swanscombe.
Two key areas have been brought to my attention as having persistent and serious problems with flooding. Residents on Milton Street had contacted me, to say that they had been complaining about the issue for 20 years, and business owners on the Manor Way Business Park had raised the issue of flooding at the entrance to the site.
This week Kent County Council representatives were asked to attend a Scrutiny Meeting at Dartford Council. I also attended, in order to ask specifically ask about Manor Road and Milton Street, and I was given the following answers:
They plan to install a pumping station to pump excess surface water away from the Manor Way site and into drainage system downstream. This work is due for completion in March/ April.
On Milton Street, further work is needed to increase the capacity of the drainage system. The ditch will be extended and a soakaway will be installed. Ditching work will take place in May, as it can’t be done while the ground is saturated.
I’d like to thank the residents that took the time to discuss this with me, and to write statements for the committee. If they hadn’t, these areas would most likely have been overlooked. I would also like to thank all of my colleagues – holding KCC to account was a cross party effort, and everyone was supportive of the case you all helped me to make.
